My Cancer Story

Updated: Mar 3, 2019

Hearing those heart stopping words “You Have Cancer" changed me forever.  I was 41 and a busy mother of two. In May of 2015, I was diagnosed with breast cancer as a result of a routine mammogram. Since then, I have had more X-rays, tests, scans, transfusions and blood work than anyone can possibly imagine. Treatment included chemotherapy, radiation and a double mastectomy along with targeted hormone therapy to reduce the chance of future reoccurrence.

It was as if I donated my body to science while I was still alive.

Something else that catapulted me into a very small percentile was that due to a rare protein in my blood I was forced to received 18 months of intravenous treatment.

Then, when I thought things couldn’t get worse….In the midst of treatment, because I was immune deficient, I contracted a bacterial infection known as CDIFF which almost took my life. But through it all, with the love and support of my God, my husband, family and most importantly myself, I managed to survive.

Today I can proudly say I am 3 1/2 years Cancer Free!

But what does that mean…. Cancer Free? What I soon came to realize is that this was just the beginning, that my quality of life as I knew it was forever changed. Everyone around me kept using the term “you Got This". But at the time I felt like I was living in a 70 year old body. This lead me on the beginnings of a life altering journey where I began to research and read about simple alternative therapies, foods and forms of meditation that could prevent reoccurrences and overall improve the quality of life.

This journey led me to start the advocacy YOUGOTTHIS.LIFE

This is where an unconventional mom can share her experience, strength and hope to prevent and reverse the awful disease of Cancer.

Sharing my knowledge and experience with other woman is the single most important thing I can do TODAY.

I want my experience to urge all women to take a proactive role in protecting your health by getting regular check-ups and mammograms and an MRI if necessary. Early detection is key. If you feel ANYTHING is not right with your body, advocate for yourself.
